In 1966, when Detroit-native Rick Roussin was just five years old, his loving mother lost her battle with breast cancer. Two years later, his stepmother died by suicide. At nine, Rick suffered relentless physical, mental, and emotional abuse at the hands of his father’s third wife. As the violence and manipulation raged into his teen years, Rick began numbing the pain with alcohol and drugs. Eventually, his addictions stripped him of everything: his home, his business, his savings, and the people he loved.

On January 1, 1986, after a harrowing nine-day, no-sleep binge of alcohol and cocaine, Rick hit a breaking point—if he didn’t change, he wouldn’t survive. Desperate and raw, he stepped into an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting that night and immediately connected with his fellow AA members, who understood everything he’d been through. Over the next year, Rick poured his pain and hope into the Twelve Steps, combatted fierce urges, and surrendered to God. He remains unwavering to this day.

Rick is the founder of Coast to Coast Computer Products, a thriving, multimillion-dollar, second-chance company in Simi Valley, California, that opens its doors to recovering addicts searching for hope. Drawing strength from his own turbulent past, Rick channels compassion, wisdom, and understanding to help his employees—and anyone else he encounters who’s struggling with addiction—find healing, direction, and sheer possibility.

Second Chances immerses readers into the heartbreak of a child robbed of his innocence, the chaos of a self-destructive alcoholic and drug addict spiraling out of control, and the inspiring resurgence of a resilient, God-fearing man driven to be his best—for himself and others. Rick’s journey is one of relentless hope, a testament to the fact that, with God, no obstacle is insurmountable.
